Sleep doesn’t come, but mornings do.
It’s the start of your morning and the alarm clock blares. You should feel well-rested and ready to start your day, but you feel exhausted and heavy.
Your mind wouldn’t turn off so you could fall asleep. As a result, you spent the night tossing and turning, trying to will your body and mind to relax. Dread sets in that you must leave your bed today and see the outside world.
Although you consider calling out of work sick, you decide against it as you already have a suspicious amount this year. You’ll have to fake it again today, so nobody asks how you’re doing – REALLY!
Feeling overwhelmed keeps you stuck.
Working hard despite feeling terrible has always been your strong suit. You have had to learn how to keep moving forward and do what needs to get done.
But sometimes, the anxiety and depression you feel get too overwhelming, and all you can do is lay in bed all day and binge on Netflix.
The voice inside your head tells you you’re lazy, your feelings don’t matter, and you’ll always feel like this.
These feelings signal anxiety and depression.
Although anxiety and depression are somewhat different, they do manifest in similar ways.
Most people experience anxiety on a smaller level under stressful situations, but some experience persistent anxiety that can feel debilitating and can have significant negative impacts, such as inability to sleep, constant fatigue, muscle tension, and high blood pressure.
Depression has many causes and can result in feeling very stuck. Untreated depression can negatively impact a person emotionally and physically. Some common signs of depression are irritability/impatience, sadness/feeling down, changes in appetite and weight loss/gain, isolating yourself from others, losing interest in activities and hobbies you once enjoyed, and having thoughts that you’ve let your family down or are better off dead.
Finding the underlying causes of either anxiety or depression can help a person overcome their suffering. Therapy provides the best approach to finding a solution.
